Wool

Wool has been prized by makers for centuries for its natural beauty, rich colour and ability to hold its texture over time. At Neulooms, we thoughtfully source wools from all over the world, selecting the ideal fibre for each design to bring out its colour, depth and softness on the wall.

Hand-Tufted

Every piece of our wall art is hand-tufted. Our artisans push wool yarn through a backing cloth, loop by loop, with a hand-held tufting tool, then shear and carve the pile to sculpt each line and curve. The result is a richly textured surface with real depth that changes as the light moves across it.

Artisan Crafted

Artisan crafted wall art carries the skill and human touch of generations of makers. Every piece is made by hand by skilled artisans using techniques passed down through the years, bringing a centuries-old textile tradition to contemporary designs made for your walls.

Size And Placement

Start with the wall, not the art. Measure the wall, or the piece of furniture the art will hang above, and note anything that sets a limit, such as switches, windows, doors and shelves. A good rule of thumb is to choose art that is about two-thirds the width of the furniture below it, and to hang it 8–10 inches (20–25 cm) above that furniture. On an open wall, aim for the centre of the piece to sit at around eye level, about 57–60 inches (145–152 cm) from the floor. Every design comes in four sizes, 4x2, 5x3, 6x4 and 7x5 ft, and the guide below will help you choose the right one for each room.

Living Rooms

In a living room, wall art often becomes the focal point. Hang it so it relates to the furniture around it rather than floating on its own.

4 x 2 wall art in a living room
5 x 3 wall art in a living room
6 x 4 wall art in a living room
7 x 5 wall art in a living room
Dining Rooms

In the dining room, your aim is balance between the art, the table and any sideboard. Soft wool texture also helps to quieten a room with hard floors and furniture.

4 x 2 wall art in a dining room
5 x 3 wall art in a dining room
6 x 4 wall art in a dining room
7 x 5 wall art in a dining room
Bedrooms

In a bedroom, wall art above the bed frames the room and adds warmth and texture.

4 x 2 wall art above a bedroom dresser
5 x 3 wall art above a bed
6 x 4 wall art above a bed
7 x 5 wall art above a bed

Cleaning And Care Guide

General Recommendations
  • Hang your wall art away from strong, direct sunlight. As with all natural fibres, the colours may fade over time with long exposure.
  • Avoid damp walls and humid spots, such as bathrooms or the wall right next to a cooker.
  • Loose fibres, known as sprouts, are normal in hand-tufted pieces. Trim them level with the pile using sharp scissors; never pull them out.
  • New wool may shed a little at first. This settles down after a few gentle dustings.
Dusting Guide
  • Dust your wall art every few weeks so dust does not settle into the pile.
  • Use a soft brush, a lint roller, or a vacuum with a brush or upholstery attachment on low suction. Work gently in the direction of the pile.
  • Never use a vacuum with a rotating beater bar on wall art.
  • For a deeper refresh, take the piece down once or twice a year and shake it out gently outdoors.
Cleaning Guide

The following is a general recommendation. Be sure to check any specific instructions for your piece before cleaning:

  • Blot, don’t rub, when a mark or spill occurs. Use a clean white cloth and a small amount of mild, wool-safe detergent in cool water. Test it on a hidden spot first.
  • Do not soak the piece, and never machine wash or tumble dry it.
  • Let any damp area dry naturally, away from direct heat, before you hang it back up.
  • For stubborn stains or a full clean, we recommend a professional textile or rug cleaner.
